The 2012 season got underway Wednesday with all 16 teams in action. The Green Bay Bullfrogs and the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks battled it out for 11 innings with the Chinooks coming out on top 2-1 on a bases loaded walk in the top of the 11th inning. Green Bay Pitcher Zac Hermans (Princeton) threw six innings allowing just one hit for the Bullfrogs.
The destiny of Eau Claire was determined by four errors made by the Express as their pitching staff recorded just one earned run. The Wisconsin Woodchucks took down the Express, in Eau Claire, 6-4.
The Waterloo Bucks were led Wednesday by starting pitcher Brock Hudgens (Charlotte). The right-hander threw 4.1 innings allowing just two hits and two earned runs while striking out six Rochester Honkers. The Bucks won 4-2.
The Alexandria Beetles defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a final score of 12-3. The Beetles were led by center fielder Ben Moore (Alabama) who went 2-for-4 with three Runs Batted In.
The Mallards fought off a Battle Creek comeback in the top of the eighth when the Bombers tied the game at 5 with a three-run inning. Madison took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a throwing error. The Mallards took the game, 6-5.
The Duluth Huskies were led by pitcher Joey Novak (Harvard) who threw six innings and allowed just two St. Cloud Rox hits and one earned run. Novak also struck out nine batters in Duluth’s 6-1 victory.
First baseman J.M. Twitchell (UT-Arlington) and shortstop Jorge Flores (Central Arizona) led the Mankato MoonDogs to a 10-4 victory over the Willmar Stingers. Twitchell went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Flores recorded three hits in six at-bats while also recording two RBI.
The La Crosse Loggers were led by first baseman Juliene Jones (Sacramento CC) who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored in their victory over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Loggers won by a score of 7-3.
