Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers tried to claw back on Saturday night, but fell short 3-2 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

It was a pitchers duel throughout, with 17 strikeouts combined between the two teams.  Woodchucks starter Korey Rasure (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) got his first win against Battle Creek in three start against the Bombers.  He lasted 8.0 innings as he allowed the two runs on five hits while striking out eight.

Bombers starter Tyler Garam (Greensboro College) went 5.2 innings, as he gave up three runs.  Only one run was earned, but Garam would suffer his first loss in a Bombers uniform.

BC (26-20, 6-5) struggled for the second night offensively, as they trailed the entire game.  Picking up six hits on the night, Battle Creek’s first runs did not come until the eighth inning.  Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) blasted a two-run home run to score the Bombers only runs of the night.  He would finish his night going 1-4, as the long ball was his sixth of the season.

Cody Hawken (University of Portland) had another solid game, as he would go 2-3 with a double.

Nick Walker (Austin Peay State University), JD Mundy (Virginia Tech), and Winston Welch (Arkansas State) each recorded a hit.

The loss was only the third time Battle Creek has lost in a one-run game.  They now sit at 9-3 when games are decided by one-run.

BC’s home record is now 13-12, with 11 home games remaining on the season.

Game two and the final game of the season between the Bombers and the Woodchucks is set for tomorrow afternoon in Battle Creek.  First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. ET from C.O. Brown Stadium.

Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 1:55 p.m. ET.
