Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers tried outscoring a very good Rockford Rivets offense, but it was RFD who would prevail 12-8 in a game that lasted five hours due to delays.

With the win Rockford (35-25, 18-8) now takes sole possession of first place in the south division second half standings.

Two different delays occurred during the game two contest, with both teams tied 7-7 in the third inning before the first delay.  After resuming play, it was a one-run advantage for the Rivets entering the eighth inning, as they would blow the game open with a three-spot to secure the win.

Battle Creek (37-24, 17-9) found themselves down 6-0 after one inning, but would scrape back with seven runs of their own over the next three innings.

It was newcomer Nehwon Norkeh (Tennessee Wesleyan University) who shined at the plate going 3-3 with two RBIs.

BC would also get early back-to-back home runs from Alex Howard (Arkansas State) and Nick Walker (Austin Peay State University). Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) and his collegiate teammate JD Mundy also drove in runs.

Four more newcomers would see action for the Bombers, with Tyler Kirkwood (Delta College), Zach Karbowski (Kellogg Community College), Ashton Knutson (Ridgewater College) and Alec Berry (Elmhurst College) each tossing innings on the mound.

Kirkwood got the start but lasted just the first inning as he allowed six runs on five hits.  All three other newcomers would allow runs out of the pen, with Knutson taking his first loss of the season.

Battle Creek ended with a 6-2 record against Rockford in the season series.  The Bombers will have a deserved day off tomorrow, before returning to action Thursday night.

BC will host the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at C.O. Brown Stadium, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 6:55 p.m. ET.
