University of Houston shortstop and 39th round pick Cooper Coldiron will be in the lineup for the Larks when they return home on Saturday.

BISMARCK, ND – There is a new Lark in town whose name got called on the day where aspiring baseball player’s dreams come true.

Cooper Coldiron (University of Houston), the new addition to the Larks roster, got his name called on day three of the MLB Draft as the reigning World Series Champion Chicago Cubs selected the infielder in the 39th round.

The Kilgore, TX native played 15 games for the Coogs in 2017 gathering 13 hits in 56 at-bats. Head Coach at the University of Houston Todd Whitting showcased his confidence in Coldiron by inserting him into the lineup late into the season as the team made a postseason run. Coldiron went 2-5 with an RBI in his first start of the season in a 15-3 win over Tulane.

Prior to his arrival at Houston Coldiron played under Dusty Hart at Grayson Community College in his home state of Texas. During his 2015 season at Grayson, Coldiron posted an impressive .370 BA and a .437 OBP to go along with 47 RBI and eight doubles.

The success at the collegiate level mixed with the upside of Coldiron was more than enough for the Cubs to call his name in the 39th round on June 14th. However, Coldiron has decided to forgo his opportunity to start his professional career to return to the University of Houston next season and ultimately play for the Bismarck Larks this summer.

The birds of Bismarck are adding to the plethora of talent they have on their roster as Coldiron will be in the lineup on Saturday against the Duluth Huskies. Coldiron will showcase his highly touted talent in front of a sold out crowd at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark, Home of Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field.
