Border Cats Sign Four Pitchers

(THUNDER BAY, ONT) The Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League announced today the signing of four pitchers for the 2009 season. Joining the pitching staff will be lefthander Tyler Powell and righthanders Christian Dekker, Matthew Singer, and Drew Erwin. 

Powell, a 6’3″, 185 pound southpaw is a sophomore at North Carolina’s Belmont Abbey College, where he’s a teammate of former Border Cats pitcher Michael Raymond. The native of Port Orange, FL has appeared in 12 games with the Crusaders this season, going 6-2 with a 2.86 earned run average. 

Dekker is a 6’6″, 215 pounder from Urbandale, IA. A junior at Northwest Missouri State University, he has a 2-4 record and a 7.00 ERA in 10 games during the 2009 season.

Singer has worked out of the bullpen during his collegiate career at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. The 6’0″, 195 pound junior from Bayenne, NJ is 3-2 this season in 18 games. In 2008, Singer compiled a 4-0 record with four saves and a 3.12 earned run average. 

Erwin is a sophomore at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. The 6’1″, 190 pounder from Alvin, TX has made 15 appearances this season, compiling a 1-2 record and a 3.86 earned run average.
