Freshman corner infielder Wheeler a top high school recruit in state of Arizona

Wisconsin Rapids, WI- Thursday, November 29th.  The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters announced today that they have signed a pair of teammates from the University of Kansas for the 2013 season. Corner infielder Marcus Wheeler will join right-handed pitcher Jordan Piché in Wisconsin Rapids next summer.

Wheeler will begin his freshman season for Kansas after a decorated prep career at Thunderbird High School in Arizona.  The power-hitting corner infielder was the top-ranked baseball recruit in the state of Arizona in 2011, according to ESPNHS.  He was a three-time All-State selection by the Arizona Republic and honored twice by the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association for his accomplishments. 

As a junior at Thunderbird High, Wheeler earned Black Canyon Region Player of the Year honors after batting .554 with 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 50 RBIs.  He helped the Chiefs to a 27-4 overall record that year and a runner-up finish in the Arizona 4A Division II State Championship.  Wheeler posted batting averages of .485 as a sophomore and .337 as a freshman, respectively.  He is a native of Phoenix, Arizona.

RHP-Jordan Piché, 6’1”, 180 lbs (R/R) Junior, Kansas
Piché will begin his first season with the Jayhawks next spring after an impressive two year stint with Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.  As a sophomore last spring Piché appeared in 14 games, posting a 9-4 record and 2.66 ERA.  In 88 innings he struck out 85 batters while pitching seven complete games. 

As a freshman in 2011 Piché pitched in 17 games, including four starts, and posted a 2-2 record and even 3.00 ERA.  In 33 innings pitched he recorded 30 strikeouts while walking just four batters. 

Piché attended Resurrection Christian High School in Loveland, Colorado where he was a four year letter winner in baseball.  He was also named All-Conference three times, All-State as a senior, and was tabbed team MVP following his final season there.  Piché is a native of Greeley, Colorado.

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League.
