St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox announced the signing of three players this week. Infielder Kyle Thornell (Stephen F. Austin State), and outfielders Garrett McMullen (Stephen F. Austin State) and Aaron Mizell (Georgia Southern) will all join the Rox for their 2014 Northwoods League campaign.

Mizell, a 5-foot-10 inch outfielder will join the Rox in his junior year at Georgia Southern. Currently, Mizell is batting .318 for the Eagles and slugging a team-leading 10 homeruns to compliment a .567 slugging percentage. Mizell is also second in hits (50) for Georgia Southern, who is currently receiving votes in the NCBWA poll. A transfer from Gordon State College, Mizell was named all-GJCAA (Georgia Junior College Athletics Association) twice and to the JUCO World Series all-Tournament Team his freshman season. As a sophomore for the Highlanders, Mizell hit .348 and tallied eight home runs and 39 RBI’s.

Thornell, a 6-foot-two inch sophomore infielder for Stephen F. Austin joins St. Cloud as a native of Houston, Texas. Thornell is currently hitting .256 for the Lumberjacks with four homeruns, five doubles and 16 RBI’s. Thornell played for McLennan Community College last season and tied for the team-lead in hits (52) while leading the team in homeruns (9), RBI’s (45) and slugging (.536) before to transferring to Stephen F. Austin.

McMullen, a 6-foot-one inch outfielder from Longview, Texas is currently being redshirted in his junior year with Stephen F. Austin. Before transferring to the Lumberjacks, McMullen played at North Central Texas College at the junior college Division I level. At NCTC, McMullen batted .313 in 52 games played, smacking six homeruns and 37 RBI’s while scoring 35 runs. He also registered 56 hits for the Lions in 179 at bats. In his freshman year, McMullen batted .344 with OPS of .965. A graduate of Longview Pine Tree High School, McMullen earned three all-District honors, two all-East Texas honors, and was all-State in his senior year.

Field Manger Augie Rodriguez, along with the Rox organization, will continue to build the roster for the third season of Rox baseball in 2014.  The Rox home opener is Friday, May 30th at 7:05p.m. at Joe Faber Field presented by Coborn’s.
