Each Will Contribute to Madison’s Lineup in 2015

Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards are pleased to announce the signings of infielder Jonathan Quintana (Barry University), catcher Zach Fairchild (Bradley University), catcher Jean Ramirez (Illinois State University), utility infielder Chris Tschida (Western Illinois University) and outfielder Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary’s College) to their 2015 roster.  Quintana will contribute full-time this season with Madison, while Fairchild, Ramirez, Tschida and Gonsolin will each be signed to temporary contracts.

Quintana, 6’1” catcher at Barry University, will join Madison’s roster after his red-shirt sophomore season with the Parrots. A native of Miami Lakes, Florida, Quintana has tallied a team-high seven home runs to go with a .291 batting average over 192 at-bats, while also tabbing ten stolen bases in 11 attempts. Quintana is a product of his hometown’s high school, Archbishop McCarthy, where he helped the program capture three consecutive state baseball titles as a third-baseman and closer. He is the son of Joe and Maria Quintana.

Fairchild, a 5’11” catcher originally from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, will join the Mallards following his sophomore season at Bradley University. He has appeared in 19 games (nine starts) and has accumulated a .293 batting average and .370 on-base percentage over 41 at-bats. Prior to his time with the Braves, Fairchild attended Sun Prairie High School where he set current program records for runs batted in and walks drawn. He is the son of Nick and Leslie Fairchild.

Ramirez, who stands at 6’0” and 213 pounds, will don green and gold this summer after his redshirt junior campaign with Illinois State. Over 129 at-bats as catcher for the Redbirds, Ramirez has batted .256 with four home runs and 21 runs batted in. Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Ramirez gained prep playing experience with Boswell High School in Fort Worth, Tex., where he hit above the .400 plateau during both his junior and senior seasons.

Tschida, a 6’3”, 200-pound utility infielder at Western Illinois, will join manager Donnie Scott’s roster following his freshman season with the Fighting Leathernecks. He has amassed a team-high 192 at-bats this season for Western Illinois, over which he has batted .260 with nine extra-base hits. A product of Joliet Catholic High School in Joliet, Illinois, Tschida was named the 2013 Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 3A Player of the Year after compiling a .390 batting average with 17 stolen bases and 20 extra-base hits as a senior.

Gonsolin, a 6’2”, 179-pound outfielder at St. Mary’s College, will join Madison’s roster following his junior season with the Gaels. His 191 at-bats this season have delivered a .314 batting average and .826 on-base plus slugging percentage from the right side of the plate along with 12 stolen bases in 19 attempts. Gonsolin is originally from Vacaville, California, where he attended his hometown high school. As a senior, he batted .370 and was named to the All Monticello Empire League team and MVP honors in the league’s all-star game.
