By: Kyle Tooley

The Madison Mallards have signed a pair of pitchers to the 2016 roster, adding Mitchell Kilkenny (Texas A&M University) and Alex Hintze (University of Connecticut).

Kilkenny, a 6’3,” 210-pound freshman from Houston, Texas, is in his freshman season with the Aggies.  He has appeared in 17.2 innings across four games with a 2-0 record, tallying 20 strikeouts, a 1.53 earned run average, and allowing only four hits.  His early success has been a big contribution to the Aggies squad who are currently ranked second in the nation.

Kilkenny, enjoyed a stellar campaign while at Houston Christian High School.  The right-hander was the Greater Houston area Pitcher of the Year in both 2014 and 2015 and led the Mustangs to Southern Preparatory Conference championship game in 2014.  He was an all-conference selection his three varsity season and threw a 12-strikeout no-hitter in 2014.

Hintze, a 6’0,” 191-pound freshman from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was a four-time letter winner during his high school career at Oshkosh North.  In his senior season, opposing hitters hit a mere .098 against the left-hander, and the Spartan ace had an impressive 0.96 ERA.  His junior campaign, the season in which he committed to UCONN, Hintze posted a 0.74 ERA in the Fox Valley Association conference, widely regarded as one of the best conferences in Wisconsin.  He finished that season with a 12-1 record and a 0.62 ERA overall.  As an underclassmen on varsity, Hintze owned a 1.96 ERA between his freshman and sophomore seasons.

The Mallards will host their home opener on Friday, June 3rd when they take on the new Northwoods League affiliate Rockford Rivets.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.  Single-game tickets for the 2016 season are on sale NOW!  Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
