Iconic and groundbreaking venue to be re-built out of shipping containers
The Madison Mallards have released a first look at the brand new Great Dane Duck Blind that will be built using 37 shipping containers. The unique architectural style will be the first of its kind in all of baseball and the first shipping container project in the city of Madison. The project will be the largest renovation at the Duck Pond since the stadium was re-built in 2011. Renderings of the project are attached to this release.
A feature of the design will be a second level suite area that cantilevers over the playing field, providing a short porch for home runs to land during games. The existing concession building and the Great Dane Duck Blind Club will be the only two structures that will remain.
“The Great Dane Duck Blind is a summer staple when it comes to entertainment in Madison,” said Mallards General Manager Tyler Isham. “This renovation will allow us to deliver a higher level of customer service, fan experience, and fun to all our fans in the Great Dane Duck Blind. We think this change will be a home run for all fans of the Mallards.”
The general admission area will have three levels running parallel to the right-field foul line, with improved sight lines of the game, additional seating with bar rails, tables, stools, and chairs, and the ever popular menu of unlimited ballpark favorites and all-you-can-drink beer featuring over 20 different types of beer. The general admission area will connect to the first level of the structure located behind the right-field fence that will feature a custom built bar, bar games, and a unique rain protected view of games.
The new Great Dane Duck Blind will feature 12 suites with indoor and outdoor options for groups of all sizes. Level two will feature the Mallards first ever year-round climate controlled indoor space with outdoor stadium box seats holding groups from 30-225. This space will also be available for year round rentals, including meetings, weddings, and other gatherings. Level three will have an indoor/outdoor patio with relaxing lounge furniture and will accommodate groups from 30-200. Level four will be an open air rooftop suite with a metal roof and amazing views for groups of 20-100.
An upgraded suite menu includes warm pretzel bites with Wisconsin beer cheese sauce, thinly shaved prime rib sandwiches, fun-sized mini donuts served fresh out of the fryer as well as all the classic ballpark favorites including hot dogs, Stoddard’s bratwursts, burgers, and BBQ pulled pork. Suite ticket holders will also receive unlimited beer, soda, water, and for the first time wine. Suite holders will also have access to a private inflatable for kids behind their suite.
The innovative Great Dane Duck Blind was amongst the first venues in sports to offer the combination of a unique fan experience partnered with a wide variety of bottomless craft beer and all you can eat food. The venue’s popularity grew quickly and by the summer of 2003 it was consistently selling out. Since then, the Mallards have made a continued effort to keep up with fan demand through a series of improvements and renovations.
