Honkers lose Oriente for the season

(Rochester Minn.) – The Rochester Honkers announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Hunter Sullivan from the nationally-ranked Louisville Cardinals. He joins the Flock along with Louisville teammate Zeke Pinkham to the team this summer.

Sullivan is a 5-foot-10, 191-pound freshman from Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He finished with a 12-1 record on the mound and a .420 batting average with a home run during his sophomore season at Elizabethtown High School. During his senior season, he earned a 3-1 record and .430 batting average with eight home runs. Sullivan was named first team All-State both years. He also earned four letters in football. Perfect Game named him the number eight prospect in the state of Kentucky and was named tenth-best by Prep Baseball Report for the class of 2016.

Hunter signed with the University of Louisville for his freshman year after having strong interest in enrolling at Western Kentucky and the Cardinals’ arch-rival Kentucky. He was red-shirted for his freshman season, but the Cardinals are having a fantastic season in 2017. Louisville is currently ranked second in the national (D1baseball.com) with a 33-6 overall record. The two-time defending Atlantic Division Champions lead the ACC Conference with a 18-4 record.

Future Honker Zeke Pinkham is finding success this season. Pinkham is batting .225 in 20 games with two doubles, a home run, and nine RBIs. Danny Oriente who signed with the team earlier will not be able to attend this summer due to an injury that hasn’t recovered as fast as planned.  We wish Danny the best and look forward to him maybe in 2018.

The Cardinals host Miami (OH) tomorrow night before continuing ACC play at Notre Dame.

The Rochester Honkers 24th season begins on Tuesday, May 30th when the team hosts the Mankato Moondogs in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. The NEW 5-Game Packs are available now!  Season Tickets, ½ Season Plans, Suites and Patios are also available. Call the Rochester Honkers office at 507-289-1170 for more information.  The Honkers are also looking for host families for the 2017 season and ask all interested parties to call the business office for more information.
