Bullfrogs sign Sahid Valenzuela of California State University, Fullerton and Mikey Filia of University of California, Irvine

The Green Bay Bullfrogs have announced the signings of positional players from California schools. Sahid Valenzuela, an infielder from California State University, Fullerton and Mikey Filia an outfielder from University of California Irvine.

Sahid Valenzuela, a 5’9”, 155-pound freshman from Yuma, Arizona, will be heading across the country to join the Bullfrogs for the 2017 season. During his high school career, the switch-hitter was a standout at St. Francis High School, where he only had one season in which he batted below the .400 mark. He was named All-League honors in each of his four years, largely due to the 99 stolen bases during his tenure. That success has followed Valenzuela to the college ranks as well. The freshman is currently leading Cal State Fullerton with a .350 batting average and has tacked on 50 hits, while scoring 24 runs and collecting 15 RBIs.

So far this season, Cal State Fullerton is on an absolute tear. The Titans currently are nationally ranked 15th, with an overall record of 29-16.

Mikey Filia, a 5’9”, 160-pound redshirt freshman from Irvine, California, will be the second California based player on the Bullfrogs roster for the 2017 season. Before utilizing a redshirt season in 2016, Filia was a star at Irvine High School. He was All-League first team and batted over .380 in his senior season. On top of his baseball honors, Filia was an All-City quarterback and team MVP. In his first season with the UC Irvine Anteaters, the outfielder has appeared in sixteen games and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage.

In 2017, UC Irvine has posted a 17-29 record. Both Filia and Valenzuela faced off in a weekend series at the end of April. Cal State Fullerton took this series 2-1, after winning the first two games before dropping the last. In this series, Valenzuela reached base five times and scored three runs, while Filia played errorless ball in the outfield.

The Bullfrogs will open their season at home Tuesday, May 30 at 6:35 p.m. against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Group tickets and single game tickets are on sale now.
