waltersDULUTH, Minn — Former Huskies infielder Zach Walters was recalled by the Washington Nationals following an injury to the starting 3B Jordan Zimmerman.  Walters, who attended University of San Diego, was a member of the Huskies in 2009 and drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 9th round of the 2010 MLB draft.

Ranked by MLB.com as Nationals' No. 10 prospect, Walters will be a backup infielder. He can play all the infield positions, except first base.  Before the promotion, he was batting .290 in 9 games for Syracuse. His Major League debut came on Friday, Sept 6 of last season against the Miami Marlins.

"Walters is capable of playing all three infield positions.  His natural position is shortstop and he has the skill set to play shortstop," general manager Mike Rizzo said. "Being a switch-hitter off the bench with power helps us." (via Nationals website)
