Duluth, Minn. — The Duluth Huskies (19-15) dropped the opening game of the doubleheader against the Thunder Bay Border Cats 3-1.

Thunder Bay wasted no time getting on the board with Mikael Mogues scoring Dan Rizzie on a second inning single. The Border Cats added their last two runs of the game in the third inning with a leadoff home run by Jared James followed later with a sacrifice fly by Alan Baldwin. Landon Smith, the Huskies starting pitcher, ended his night with a loss after giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings of work.

Border Cats starting pitcher Greg Weissert had a strong outing as he kept the Huskies off the board through seven innings. Weissert would end the night with eleven strikeouts and only two walks over seven innings of work while also picking up the win.

The Huskies will be back in action at 6:35 tonight to finish off the series with the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Wade Stadium.
