For the 2nd day in a row the Duluth Huskies (9-9) beat the Rochester Honkers (5-12) at Mayo Field Friday night.

The Huskies hopped to an early lead in the top of the 1st with Justin Ambrosino hitting a double scoring Daniel Amaral. Ambrosin later scored on an error by the 3rd baseman, putting the Huskies up 2 runs. The Honkers came back swinging, with a double from Mark Contreras, who would later score on a single from Joey Czarske. Nic Strasser smashed his first homerun of the season in the top of the 5th to add one more to the Huskies score. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 6th that the Honkers tied up the game at 3 with a 2-run home run from Joey Czarske. Matt Brown stepped up to the plate hitting his second homerun of the season, for the second night in a row, to put the Huskies ahead 4-3 in the top of the 8th. By the 9th inning the Huskies started to run away with the game scoring 5, including a home run from Daniel Gardner, which was his first of the season. In the bottom of the 9th the Honkers effort fell short, by being thrown out twice at home. The final score was 9-3.

Toby Anderson had a strong start going 5.2 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Corey Gaconi earns the win for the Huskies after tossing 3.1 innings with 6 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Jackson Douglas was the starter for the Honkers and he pitched 5.0 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Carter Lilly received the loss for the Honkers tossing 1.2 innings with 3 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout.

The Huskies continue their road trip to St. Cloud on Saturday and Sunday to face the Rox. The Huskies will be back at home for a 6 game home stand starting Tuesday, June 21st for West Duluth Business Night.
