In the first game of the doubleheader the Duluth Huskies (14-13) came out on top winning 4-3 over the Eau Claire Express (11-15) in enemy territory. The second game did not go the Huskies way as they lost a heartbreaker in extra innings.

The first game played was a continuation of the game that was postponed on the 16th. The Huskies started off the game down 2-1 but tied up it all up with one swing in the sixth inning. The tying run came off the bat of Matt Frazier as he delivered an RBI single to score Jack Stronach after Stronach drew a two out walk. In the ninth inning, the Huskies would go to add on two more runs to make the score 4-2. The ninth started off with Dean Nevarez hitting a double into the left centerfield gap. Then Kyle Hubbuch walked after Camryn Williams went down swinging. Jake Pries came up with one out and hit an RBI single scoring Nevarez. With still only one out on the board Isaac Collins hit a sacrifice fly to score Hubbuch and put the Huskies up by two.

In the ninth inning, the Huskies called upon the ever so dominate closer known as Kevin Folman. He ended up giving up his first earned run of the Summer but shut the door on the Express to record his 7th save of the season. Folman has been lights out as he has thrown 12.1 innings and logged 19 strikeouts.

The second game of the day was in all sense a heartbreaker. The game was originally scheduled to only go seven innings but ended up going 10. It was a 1-0 lead for the Express the entire game until with two outs in the seventh when Dean Nevarez came up clutch yet again by delivering an RBI triple off the left field wall scoring Jake Pries. It was not until the ninth inning until the next run would come across the board. With Pries on first Matt Frazier walked up and stroked a towering RBI double into right center field. After Frazier’s double, the Huskies led 2-1 and only needed three more outs to secure the win. The Express came in the bottom of the ninth and answered back with a run of their own to continue the game. Second baseman Scott Ogrin hit a shot to the hot corner where Jack Stronach made a terrific diving play to stop it from going into the outfield. When Stronach came up throwing he was forced to rush his throw which resulted in a throwing error allowing Ogrin to reach safely. Then two batters later and with two outs on the board, Beau Capanna hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield to tie it up. It only took one more inning to decide a winner. With Trevor Smishek on the mound he walked the first batter, gave up a single then Kyle Marinconz had a sacrifice hit to advance the runners. With runners on third and second, first baseman Rudy Rott came up swinging and had the game winning RBI single to give the Express the win.

Huskies look to bounce back against the same Express team at Wade Stadium on the 26th at 6:35pm.
