Rox launch two homers to throttle Eau Claire, losing streak extends to six

It was a tough night at Carson Park for the Eau Claire Express who fell 13-0 to the St. Cloud Rox to drop their sixth straight game and remain winless in the second half of Northwoods League play.

Michael Gomez got the start for the Express and pitched four innings allowing six runs, all earned on nine hits and four walks.

The Express only managed four hits, two from centerfielder Brady Burzynski and two from catcher Daulton Varsho. The rest of the lineup went hitless. Express Field Manager Dale Varsho said the four runs allowed in the second inning fits the theme of the team’s current losing streak.

“When you’re struggling like we are and you get in a hole right away it deflates the whole thing were trying to work on,” said Varsho. “It’s tough to get out of a hole.”

St. Cloud didn’t make it easy on the Express as they hit two home runs in the rout and collected 17 hits. To make matters worse in the bottom of the eighth inning the Express put the first two men on board. But a groundout to third from right fielder Tyler Adksion resulted in a 5-4-3 triple play turned by the St. Cloud Rox infield.

“Coming to the ball park is no problem, working hard is no problem, just frustrations arise when things just really don’t go our way,” said Varsho. “And it’s from getting a bad error, to getting a bad base hit, everything is going in the wrong direction.”

The Express stay at Carson Park for two more days as they start a series against the Rochester Honkers tomorrow. First pitch at Carson Park is set for 6:35 p.m. Tomorrow’s game is sponsored by Suppz and former WWE wrestler Kevin Nash will be making an appearance.

“We haven’t played very well,” said Varsho. “I think we have some talent on the field we just can’t put it together, and that’s the frustrating thing.”
