Growlers Stay Hot, Outlast Fondy 8-6
Fon Du Lac, WI- The Growlers headed to Fon Du Lac fresh off a weekend series sweep of the Wisconsin Woodchucks, Kzoo would stay hot. Here is how it unfolded
Fondy would strike first in the bottom of the first on an RBI double from left fielder Caleb Summerhays (UNLV),1-0 Fondy. The Dock Spiders would add two more on an error to make it 3-0.
The Growlers would roar back in the top of the third. Matt Koehler (Western Carolina) jacked a home run over the right center field fence to get Kzoo on the board, 3-1 Fondy. Jeff Riedel (Ball State) would be credited with a two RBI double down the left field line , and would score a little league inside the park homerun on a throwing error from the Fondy catcher, 4-3 Kzoo.
The Dock Spiders would tie it up at 4 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from their center fielder Eric Gilgenbach (Notre Dame). In a back and forth game Kzoo would regain the lead in the top of the 4th on a two out RBI single up the middle from shortstop LA Woodard (Kansas City CC), 5-4 Growlers.
The Growlers would add two more in the top of the sixth on a RBI fielder's choice from third baseman Drew Huff (MTSU), and a sac fly from catcher Anthony Rios (Lewis), 7-4 Kzoo.
Fondy would get within one with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Gilgenbach would beat out a would be double play ball for an RBI fielder's choice, and then the next batter Colin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan) knocked an RBI double to make it 7-6 Growlers.
Kzoo would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Drew Huff, 8-6 Kalamazoo. Chet Josyln (Valparaiso) pitched three scoreless innings out of the pen, and Drew Huff contributing on both sides of the ball notched the save to secure an 8-6 Growler victory.
Kalamazoo is back in action on wednesday August 9th against Fondy at 7:35 ET after the Major League Dream Showcase takes place in Madison on tuesday. The Growlers will be represented by Connor Manous (Indiana), JR Holloway (Oklahoma City), Connor Hollis (Houston), and Jason Sullivan (Central Michigan) who will showcase their skills in front of big league scouts.
