The Kingfish (22-39 overall) were defeated by the Mallards 8-5 at Simmons Field tonight. 

Madison scored the game’s first three runs and led 3-0 through two frames. The Kingfish came back to tie the game at 3-3, but Madison put together a late surge to run away from the Kingfish. The Mallards were able to capitalize on two Kingfish errors to do a significant portion of their damage. 

Sam Lund made his second start of the year for the Kingfish. He threw four innings, and allowed eight hits and five runs, ultimately suffering the loss. Ty Harris let in three runs in three innings, and both Andrew Burnick and Trent VanEgtern had scoreless frames each. 

The Kingfish offense had a strong performance in defeat, and totaled six extra base hits. Marty Bechina went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBIs. Pat McInerney ended his night 3 for 5 with a double, and Matt Byars finished 2 for 5 with a double as well. 

The Kingfish will host the Mallards for the second game of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 CT.
