LA CROSSE, WI – Hoping to bounce back after a tough loss the game before, the La Crosse Loggers were ready to roll after a much-needed day off. Playing host to the Thunder Bay Border Cats, the first of a two-game home series would turn out to be a heartbreaker for Logger fans. The Border Cats scored six runs in the top of the first inning, but the Loggers fought their way back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and evenutally would take the lead by three in the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, the ball was not bouncing in favor of the Loggers. They caught some tough breaks, while the Border Cats caught some lucky breaks. After scoring five total runs between the top of the eighth and ninth innings, the Border Cats would come out on top and the Loggers fall 9-11.

Loggers' starting pitcher was RHP Mason McMahon (UW-La Crosse). McMahon would struggle as he allowed six runs on five hits after pitching just 1.0 inning having reached the 35 pitch limit per inning set by the NWL. The performance of the night would go to right-handed relief pitcher, Sam Messina (Army). Messina amazed as he went 6.0 innings allowing no runs on just four hits with 10 strikeouts and allowing just one walk. This was by far his best outing of the season, but unfortunately it would not be enough. Relief appearances were also made by RHP Charlie Fletcher (William & Mary) and RHP Cody Ebert (Columbia). It would be Ebert who would be handed the loss tonight. RHP Kyle Gamez would be the winning pitcher for the Border Cats and LHP DJ DePiero would collect the save.

Leading the Loggers' offense tonight were Kennie Taylor (Duke) going 1-for-6 with two RBI, Garrett Christman (Butler) going 1-for-5 with one RBI, Jake Hirabayashi (UCLA) going 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Jorge Gutierrez (Texas A&M) going 1-for-2 with a two-run homerun and three RBI.
