LA CROSSE, WI – Your final from The Lumberyard tonight was the La Crosse Loggers 5 and the Thunder Bay Border cats donuts. The Loggers were able to hold the Border Cats to zero runs resulting in everyone exiting the game receiving a coupon for a free glazer donut from Kwik Trip. This is the first time this 2017 season that the Loggers have been able to complete a shutout at home. All engines were working for the Loggers tonight as the offense and defense both came to play. With this win, the Loggers improve to 28-35 on the season and 14-15 on the second half, which puts them still 4.5 games out of first place in the North Division.

Having struggled for most of the season, RHP Hunter Davis (Duke) threw an absolute gem of a game tonight. The Loggers' starting pitcher went 6.2 innings allowing no runs on just two hits with six strikeouts and one walk. This performance by Davis would earn him the player of the game title for the night and he would also pick up the win. Davis is now 2-5 on the season with a 4.96 ERA. LHP Neil Lang (Concordia-Irvine) would make a solid relief appearance allowing no runs on one hit in 1.1 innings of work. Finally, RHP Grant Ford (Nevada) would come in to close the game in the top of the ninth inning. Border Cats' LHP Connor Centala would take the loss tonight.

The major players behind the Loggers' offense tonight were David Villar (South Florida) going 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homerun, Jake Hirabayashi (UCLA) going 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Jeremy Ydens (UCLA) going 1-for-4 with a two-RBI triple. With the Loggers' defense bringing their A game to The Lumberyard tonight, that would be all the offense the Loggers would need to take care of business tonight getting the 5-0 win over the Border Cats.

The La Crosse Loggers will now have a two-game road series against the Mankato MoonDogs before returning home on Monday, August 7 against the St. Cloud Rox. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
