Mequon, WI – July 23, 2014. Madison Mallards All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) hit a three run homer in the fourth inning to lead the Northwoods League South Division over their North Division counterparts by a score of 3-0 yesterday at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Alonso was awarded the Northwoods League Star of Stars MVP award after his 1-for-3 performance with three RBI and a run. Also representing the Mallards was outfielder Alex Bacon (North Florida) and catcher Drew Carlile (Bradley). Carlile went 1-for-2 with a single.  

Mallards pitchers Christian Taugner (Brown), Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) and Tim Black (Central Michigan) all made relief appearances in the game, combining for 2.2 innings of shutout work and two strikeouts. Black, the Northwoods League leader in saves, recorded the save for the South Division after tossing one inning and striking out one in the ninth.

The Mallards are off until tomorrow, when they resume play in a home-and-home series against the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Mallards play one in Mequon on Thursday at 6:35 pm and return to the “Duck Pond” on Friday for a 7:05 pm game.
