July1stFinding themselves a game back in the Northwoods League South division with only five games left in the first half, the Mallards (20-11) hope to take care of business on the road today, as they travel to Mequon to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-20). The two teams battled it out last night in Madison, with the Mallards winning the low-scoring affair by a score of 1-0. Josh Stowers (Louisville) hit his first home run of the season, which ended up making the difference, and the pitching staff threw their first shutout of 2016.

Looking to build off of the stellar performance that Madison received from their pitchers a night ago, manager Donnie Scott will throw Frank German (North Florida), who has been sensational on his own this season. The right-hander will be making his fifth start of 2016, currently standing at 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA. German has been a member of the rotation since the beginning of the season, owning the lowest earned run average of that original group.

Lakeshore will throw Tyler Jandron (UW-Parkside), who will be making his first start of the season. Jandron has only appeared in one game this season, as the left-hander worked three scoreless in innings in relief against Kenosha back on June 24th, allowing only one base runner in that outing. Jandron posted a 2.71 ERA in 15 appearances (nine starts) with the UW-Parkside Rangers in 2016.

Despite scoring only one run last night, the Mallards have been receiving outstanding performances at the plate as of late. Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) has hit three home runs and 13 RBIs in his last ten games, putting himself only a couple of RBIs behind the Northwoods League leader. Josh Stowers is hitting .409 over his last 22 at-bats and Nick Roark (Oral Roberts) has turned in five RBIs in his last ten games. Roark is hitting .326 in 46 at-bats this season.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Saturday, July 2nd to take on the St. Cloud Rox at 5:05 pm. The game will feature postgame fireworks, presented by Pepsi. There will also be a performance by Brothers & Sisters featuring the Brothers of Locksley with Friends. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
