(Rochester, Minn.)- The Rochester Honkers defeated the Battle Creek Bombers 3-2 on Thursday night. Alex Evans (Barton County CC) earned the win and moved to 3-0 on the season. Patrick Duester (Tulane) earned his first save of the season. Alex Hermeling (Ohio State) was charged with the loss for Battle Creek despite dominating the Honkers for the first four innings.

Ryan Summers (Louisville) was outstanding at the plate for the Honkers, going2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, all on the game-winning homerun in the fifth inning.

The Honkers struggled against Hermeling early on, not recording a hit until the fifth inning.

Battle Creek took advantage of the Honkers slow start, combined with of a couple of Rochester errors in the second, to take a 2-0 lead. They would carry that lead would carry that into the fifth, when Summers’ first long ball of the season would flip the script and give the Honkers a 3-2 lead.

Evans, Tanner Howell, and Duester held the Bombers off across the final four innings to preserve the Honkers victory.

The Honkers will be home again tomorrow, July 3rd, to host the Mankato Moondogs at 7:05 p.m. There will be a Fireworks Extravaganza following the game, presented by Olmstead Medical Center and ABC 6 News.
