Northwoods League also announces upcoming 2015 schedule

marcus 2c vectorWillmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce a new partnership with Marcus Construction for the upcoming 2015 season.

Marcus Construction has been instrumental in the success of the Stingers since the inaugural year and will be the headline presenting sponsor next season.

Marcus Construction will also be the opening night sponsor for the 6th year of Northwoods League baseball as the Stingers home opener will be at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th against the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Bill Taunton Stadium.

“Marcus Construction’s commitment to the Willmar area and support of the Stingers has been monumental,” Co-owner Ryan Voz said. “It is businesses like Marcus Construction that have a similar vision in providing family entertainment and increasing the quality of life in West Central MN.”

The Northwoods League recently released the 2015 league schedule, which will include a 36-game home schedule for each franchise. The Stingers open next year in Duluth on Wednesday, May 27th for a one-game series before returning home.

The regular season will again be divided into a first and second half 36-game format with the winner of each half meeting in a best-of-three divisional playoff. The winner of each division will then meet in a best-of-three league championship series on August 13-15.

The Stingers hope to build off the momentum from the 2014 season as the team recorded a franchise record 46 wins and earned a playoff spot for the second time. Willmar fell to Mankato in the North Division playoffs in three game series ending a memorable season at the Beehive. The Stingers had three mid-season NWL All-Stars (Brady Anderson, Nick Rivera and Andrew Towns) with both Anderson and Rivera earning post-season All-Star nominations as well.

As in years past, the Stingers will face two teams from the South Division in an interleague series. The Stingers will travel to Wisconsin in June and take on the La Crosse Loggers and the Madison Mallards.  The Mallards will visit the Beehive on July 7-8 and the Loggers will visit Willmar on July 30-31. The 2015 Northwoods League All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rafters hosted the 2011 NWL All-Star Game.

Field Manager Drew Saberhagen, as well as the Stingers organization will continue to build the roster for the 2015 season. Season tickets for the 2015 season are currently on sale.
