Waterloo, Iowa — Waterloo struck in the early going Sunday afternoon and held on the rest of the way for a 10-1 victory over Willmar at Riverfront Stadium, snapping the Stingers season-high six game winning streak.

Willmar (27-12) had a chance to win its 13th straight game against the Bucks (20-21) dating back to 2013, but for one of the few times this year, it could not overcome an early deficit. Even though opposing teams had scored first on the Stingers in 20 games, Willmar started the day with a 10-10 record in those games and had 12 comeback wins total.

Waterloo scored three times in the bottom of the second inning to open up the early lead. Three hits in that inning, including a pair of doubles, helped the Bucks go up for good.

But starter Zach Strecker kept the Stingers in the game, and they cut into what was a four-run deficit at the time in the top of the fifth. With two outs in the frame, Willmar loaded up the bases. Sean Beesley started the rally with a double, Storm Wilson walked and the two executed a double steal to put runners at second and third. Reagan Fowler walked after that to load the bases and Kyle Gilbert followed with another walk to make it a 4-1 deficit.

The game would stay with that same score until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bucks struck four more times to open up the score. Waterloo added two more in the eighth to make it a 10-1 margin.

Sean Beesley finished with a 2-for-4 afternoon, his 15th game this season he has had multiple hits in and stole his 20th base of the season. He has still yet to be caught on the base paths.

Willmar has one more game on the road Monday night before returning to Willmar for a six-game homestand, which starts Tuesday with Icky Woods Night.
