Alexandria, Minn. — The Stingers engaged in a little catharsis Monday night in Alexandria.

After getting swept by Mankato the previous night, Willmar exploded for a season-high 22 runs against the Blue Anchors, coasting to the biggest win in more than two seasons with a 22-6 victory over Alexandria at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.

The Stingers (37-20, 14-9 second half) played from behind for the third straight night, but once the offense got rolling, there was no slowing it down.

After Alexandria (25-34, 13-11)  got a two-run home run in the first inning, Willmar responded with the first of several big blows, a six-run second inning. Willmar sent 10 men to the plate in the inning, and Brian Pruett, Dylan Alexander, Billy Quirke and Eddie Estrada all came up with RBI hits in the frame. Pruett’s two-run double started the scoring, with Alexander recording his first hit as a Stinger a batter later to give the Stingers the lead for good.

But that was just the start. Willmar’s Storm Wilson robbed a home run in the bottom of the third, and then the Stingers sent 10 more men to the plate in the fourth, scoring five more times to make it an 11-2 lead. The big hit in the fourth came from Estrada, who also doubled home a pair.

The big hits then started to fall. Ky Parrott blasted his first home run of the game in the fifth, a grand slam to make it 15-2. Then in the sixth, Wilson unloaded his fourth home run of the year, a two-run bomb to right-center, making it 17-4.

Following a four-run seventh inning, Parrott crushed his second home run of the night in the eighth for the final run of the game. Parrott’s two homers marked the first time this year a Stingers player has hit multiple home runs in a game.

In the biggest win since a 24-5 thrashing of Alexandria in June of 2013, the Stingers had eight different players score multiple runs and six different players drive in multiple runs.

The Stingers return home starting Tuesday for a five-game homestand. Tuesday night is Salute to Agriculture Night presented by West Central Inc. and Central Lakes Cooperative, and all fans will receive sweet corn while supplies last.
