Professional Baseball returns for second year at Bill Taunton Stadium on May 7

Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce that the St. Paul Saints and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will return to Willmar for another exhibition game at Bill Taunton Stadium on Sunday, May 7th. Both organizations are a part of the American Association, which will being regular season play on Thursday, May 18th.

The American Association is an independent professional baseball league that was founded in 2005 and operates in the states of Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas, along with the Canadian province of Manitoba.

The St. Paul Saints, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Winnipeg Goldeyes and Sioux Falls Canaries make up the North Division and compete in a league of 12 franchises that play a 100-game regular season schedule, with a post-season and league championship. 

The Saints are coming off a 2016 season that drew over 8,400 fans per game in St. Paul with a post-season appearance, before falling to eventual league champion Winnipeg Goldeyes. For the Saints, this upcoming season will be a historic year as the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary of professional baseball in Minnesota. 

The Saints are owned by the Goldklang Group, which has Mike Veeck and Bill Murray as part of the ownership group. The Saints are on the leading frontier of fun and excitement at their ballgames. The Saints are renowned for the creative and innovative ways to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere for their fans.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are coming off their 21th season of operation, their sixth in The American Association. Prior to joining the American Association, the RedHawks spent fifteen seasons in the Northern League, where they set the modern Northern League single-season record for win percentage with a 64-21 (.753) mark in 1998, set the record for most wins in a season with 68 in 2005 and made it to the playoffs 14 of 15 seasons winning five Northern League titles. The RedHawks were named Baseball America's Independent Team of the Decade during the '90s.
