ROCHESTER, Minn. – Six was the magic number for the Stingers Tuesday evening in Rochester.

Polo Portela (Sac City) and Josh Bissonette (Baylor) lead the Stingers to a record-setting victory, with Portela throwing six no-hit innings and Bissonette going 6-for-6 at the plate. Their performances led the Stingers to a 9-1 victory at Mayo Field.

It was Portela's second start of the season. In the first start last week against Eau Claire, he faced the minimum through five innings. Tonight, he no-hit the Honkers through six before getting taken out of the game. His victory improved his record to 3-1 on the season, and he has yet to give up an earned run through 21 total innings.

Bissonette set a new Stingers record with six hits in the game. He went 6-for-6 and had two RBI. He improved his batting average to .432 this season.

Bissonette was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night, and Portela was named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night. It was the first time this season for each player.

As a team, the Stingers compiled 20 hits, which is the most they’ve had all season. It all began with Brady Shockey's (USC) single to begin the game. Shockey now has had a leadoff hit to begin the game in all three games this road stretch.

Marcus Still (New Mexico State) and Bissonette followed with two more hits before Nolan Bumstead (CS-Northridge) drove in the first of nine total runs for the Stingers.

Moments later, Rob Emery’s (San Francisco) sacrifice fly drove in another run for the Stingers.

The two-run first inning catalyzed a day in which the Stingers went 20-for-45 at the plate. They had at least one run in each of the first five innings, and seven different Stingers had an RBI. Bumstead now has 17 on the season, which leads the team.

Following Portela’s start, Joe Vranesic (Kent State) and Connor Jahn (Presbyterian) finished off the game by allowing only one hit for the Honkers. It was a home run hit by Zach Zubia, who is among the Northwoods League leaders in home runs.

The Stingers combined one-hitter gave them the eleventh win of their season, moving to an 11-10 record.
