Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks could only muster three hits in an 8-2 loss to the Madison Mallards Sunday at Athletic Park.

Madison jumped ahead early with one run in the second inning and expanded their lead with three runs in the sixth, which all scored on a three-run homer from Cameron Frost that went into the bullpen down the right field line.

The Chucks got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Ty Black led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Back-to-back groundouts moved him around, but that would be it for Wisconsin in the frame.

Wisconsin was on the board again in the seventh. Jared Oliva opened the frame with a double and scored on an infield single from Taylor Kohlwey.

The Woodchucks trailed just 4-2 through seven innings, but the Mallards insured victory in the top of the ninth by scoring four runs off five singles and one error.

Trevor Dudar got the start for the Chucks, and he went six innings on the bump. The right-handed hurler from Midland University gave up five hits and four runs with five strikeouts. Tim McElroy relieved Dudar and threw the final three innings for Wisconsin.

The Woodchucks head down to Witter Field tomorrow to play the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a tripleheader. The Woodchucks and Rafters get started at 4:05 p.m. with a suspended game from May 27 and follow that contest two more seven-inning ballgames.
