Mike Gedman

Wausau, WIS- The Wisconsin Woodchucks, a member of the Northwoods League, are pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Gedman as the new Field Manager.   

Gedman is the Head Baseball Coach of the Framingham State Rams Baseball Team and prior to his role with the Rams he spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Bryan University. In 2014 Gedman led the Rams to a 20-19 season and an ECAC Tournament Appearance, setting a school record for team ERA and stole an impressive 126 bases, which was good for 6th nationally with 3.23 stolen bases per game.

Woodchucks General Manager Ryan Treu is excited about the addition of Gedman. “Baseball has been in Mike's blood his entire life. When you look at Mike's experience and his passion for the game, it’s very evident we’ve found a great leader who has played in our league and now has the tools to teach and develop our incoming players,” said Treu, “I am excited to continue working diligently with him to finalize our 2016 roster and put a championship caliber team on the field.”

Gedman played his collegiate ball at Le Moyne College before transferring to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and spent two seasons playing for the Brainerd Lunkers, a former Northwoods League team, where he was named a Northwoods League All Star. Gedman played two seasons for the Worcester Tornadoes and a season for the Rockland Boulders of the CANAM league.  

Gedman comes from a line of successful athletes, his sister Marissa play collegiate hockey at Harvard University, his brother Matt played professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization, his mother Sherry was a very successful pitcher at the University of Connecticut and his father Rich was a two time all-star for the Boston Red Sox and is now the hitting coach in AAA for the Pawtucket Red Sox

The new coaching staff and team are not the only new things coming to Athletic Park and the Woodchucks for the 2016 season. The $3 Million Phase II of the Athletic Park renovations are on schedule to be completed in time for the 2016 season. "With all the renovations being finalized at Athletic Park this summer,” Treu said, “we believe we have constructed not only a stadium but also a roster that Woodchuck fans will enjoy and be proud of."
