Madej’s Homer Leads Kingfish to Sloppy Win

Kenosha, Wis. – Monday night, the Wisconsin Woodchucks turned in one of their best overall games of the season in a 10-1 win over the Kenosha Kingfish. Two dominant pitchers combined for just one walk with 11 strikeouts. The defense committed just one error and the offense put up 15 hits in a comprehensive win. Tuesday night, that all changed. Woodchucks pitchers issued 11 walks against five strikeouts, and the defense committed five errors with eight hits from the offense, and the Kingfish (29-24; 7-11) dispatched the Woodchucks (21-32; 6-12) 10-5 Tuesday night at Simmons Field.   

The Chucks kicked off the scoring in the first Tuesday thanks once again to James Davison, who led off the game with a walk and scored on a Logan Foster groundout. Kenosha responded immediately in the bottom half, scoring two runs on a Kellen Rholl wild pitch and an error to take a 2-1 lead.

Wisconsin leveled the score in the top of the second on a Trey Dawson RBI single, but Kenosha regained the lead in the bottom half on one from Connor Doyle. But the Chucks tallied their biggest of the game, a 2-RBI triple by Hunter Coleman, to take a 4-3 lead in the fourth.

They wouldn’t lead again. The Kingfish struck twice the bottom half on a fielder’s choice and an error, but blew the game open in the fifth. Ben Troike led off with a single and Nick Kanavas followed with a walk in his season debut. They pulled off the double steal with one out but then Mike Madej stepped up and smacked his third home run of the year over the left-field wall to put Kenosha up 8-4.

The Fish increased their lead in the next inning. Tyler Paulsen led off with a double and Kenosha loaded the bases against Kevin Bolder before Madej drew a bases-loaded walk from Brogan Briggs to make it 9-4 Fish. Wisconsin got one back in the eighth when Davison scored his third run of the game on a Dawson sac fly, but Kenosha restored its five-run lead when Jack Yalowitz singled home Kanavas, capping off the 10-5 Kenosha win.

Wisconsin is back at it early Wednesday afternoon for the second same-day doubleheader of the year against Wisconsin Rapids. Zach Siggelkow will start Game 1 for the Woodchucks, with first pitch at Witter Field scheduled for 12:05 PM.
