Anchors complete sweep of Bucks

Alexandria, Minn. – The Alexandria Blue Anchors swept the Waterloo Bucks Sunday afternoon at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a score of 3-1.  The Anchors are now 16-15 in the second half and 28-38 on the season.

The Blue Anchors got on the board in the second inning against Brian Drapeau.  Matt Hopfner reached on an error to lead off the inning and went to second on a walk to Kyle Richardson.  A groundout moved both into scoring position and Drew Fearing knocked in both runs with a single to center putting them ahead 2-0.

Alexandria added some insurance in the sixth.  Hopfner led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a groundout.  Anthony Mrosla walked to put two on.  After the second out was recorded, a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.  The Bucks brought in a new pitcher to face Dane Hutcheon but he delivered another wild pitch scoring Hopfner and making the score 3-1.

The Bucks were finally able to figure out the Blue Anchors pitching staff in the seventh.  Mitch Larson allowed a one-out base hit to Mikal Hill and he went to second on a passed ball.  Tim Millard singled in Hill cutting the lead down to 3-1.

Josh Baumgart got the start for Alexandria and pitched four scoreless innings allowing just five baserunners and he struck out two.  Larson (2-3) got the win allowing a run on three hits in 2.2 innings with one strikeout.  Ciji Ramos inherited a bases-loaded jam but he got out of that and threw 1.1 scoreless.  Tyler Hasper finished the ballgame picking up his second save of the year in 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game – Josh Baumgart (SP) – Making a spot start, the reliever Baumgart came up clutch.  Though he didn’t collect the victory, he threw four great innings and lowered his ERA down to 4.76.
