\n\tThe Bombers couldn't get much going at the plate, scoring just two runs on three hits, as they fell to the Wisconsin Woodchucks, 4-2 at Athletic Park.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIt looked like the Bombers would get to Woodchucks' starter Jonah DiPoto early, as they loaded the bases on three straight walks in the top of the first at Athletic Park, but DiPoto settled down and left them loaded against the Bombers.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIn the bottom of the inning, the Woodchucks loaded the bases as well, but Nigel Ward was not able to get out of the jam as Steven Mangrum singled to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead and an RBI groundout by George Janca made it 2-0.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Woodchucks came back to extend their lead in the bottom of the second, as with Steele Walker at first after a hit-by-pitch and two outs, Cole Daily and Steve Passatempo hit back-to-back singles to extend the Woodchucks lead to 3-0.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBoth Ward and DiPoto would settle down after the second though and neither team would score again until the fifth.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Bombers got on the board in the top of the fifth as Cody Young led off the inning with a double, the first hit of the game for the Bombers. Young would move to third on a balk and score on a wild pitch, cutting the Woodchucks' lead to 3-1.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Woodchucks would get the run back though in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases on three straight singles before taking a 4-1 lead on Janca's sacrifice fly.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tDiPoto was absolutely dominant for the Woodchucks, as he mowed down the Bombers' hitters, striking out 12 batters over 6.0 innings pitched, while allowing just one run on one hit. Ward settled down after the first two innings, but took the loss for the Bombers, as he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits over 6.0 innings pitched.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBattle Creek would threaten in the top of the seventh and eighth innings, and score one in the eighth as Daniel Jipping came around to score on the error by Woodchuck's third baseman Janca, cutting the lead to 4-2.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBut Gordon Cardenas would come in the ninth and nail down the save to give the Bombers the loss.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tWith the loss, the Bombers fall to 22-21 on the season and 4-3 in the second half while the Woodchucks move to 17-25 and 4-3 in the second half as well. Battle Creek will look to take game two and split the series against the Woodchucks Wednesday evening at 6:35 CST\/7:35 EST with Malcom Grady on the hill for the Bombers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
