\n\tMequon, Wisc. – <\/strong>Battle Creek (41-28, 21-13) has won three straight after a double header sweep tonight at the Lakeshore Chinooks (37-32, 19-15). With a win today, Battle Creek has secured a spot in the 2017 Northwoods League Playoffs, and need a win and a Rockford loss tomorrow to clinch a home playoff game.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tGame One: Start in June, Finish it in August<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore the rain delay back on June 22, Battle Creek’s Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) doubled to score Alex Howard (Arkansas State). Stoffel doubled again with bases loaded in the second inning to score three more runs, making it 5-0. Then Mother Nature interfered.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBattle Creek resumed the game with a 5-0 advantage on Lakeshore in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on first, Aaron Antonini (Middle Tennessee State) started the game with a full count, in which the Lakeshore starter walked Antonini and Storm Joop (University of Indianapolis) to load the bases.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAlex Howard (Arkansas State) worked a walk to give Battle Creek a 6-0 lead. Stoffel sacrificed himself to left center to bring in the second run of the day for BC. Lakeshore was dug into a 7-0 deficit to start the day.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAndrew Click (Davenport University) started the game back in June, so he continued his start from over a month ago. Click allowed two hits but both Chinooks were stranded. In the fifth inning, the game was delayed 45 minutes from a rain delay.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBattle Creek scratched one run right after the delay. Joop singled to score Cody Hawken (University of Portland) to make the BC lead 8-0. The Bombers offense would strike again in the seventh, Joop’s RBI single scored Aaron Antonini for a 9-0 lead on Lakeshore. The Chinooks would get on the board in the bottom of the seventh with three hits and one Battle Creek error, cutting the deficit to 9-1.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAndrew Click would sit down Lakeshore the rest of the way, producing one of his best starts of the summer. Click earned his fourth win of the summer with his nine IP, nine hits, one earned run, three walks and eight strikeout performance.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tGame 2: Bombers Sneak Game 2 for Sweep<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBattle Creek struck first in the second game with four hits and a run scored. Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) and Nick Walker (Austin Peay) singled to start the game. On a Nehwon Norkeh (Tennessee Wesleyan) single, Stoffel tried to score but was thrown out at the plate. Walker did score safely with a Storm Joop (University of Indianapolis) line drive single.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tLakeshore would tie the game in the home half of the second inning off three hits. Battle Creek starter Zach Karbowski (Kellogg Community College) got the first two outs of the inning, but allowed a walk and back-to-back singles to tie the game.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tNikola Vasic (Southern Illinois) broke the tie in the top of the fourth. Joop singled to begin the inning, and moved over on a bad pickoff move from the Lakeshore pitcher. Vasic hit one to right to take a 2-1 lead for Battle Creek.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the bottom of the seventh still down 2-1, the Chinooks got the tying run on board with a leadoff single. A sac bunt attempt failed after Justin Felix (Arkansas State) fielded the bunt in front of the plate and got the lead runner at second. Down to their final out and a runner on first, a pass ball at the plate moved the runner over to second. Then Lakeshore hit a liner up the middle to score the tying run 2-2.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn extras, with one out, Battle Creek’s Walker and Norkeh singled. Joop followed them by working a walk to load the bases for Vasic. Vasic, with nineteen family members in attendance, bloop singled to right center to take a 3-2 BC lead. Felix followed with a sac fly RBI of his own to score Norkeh to give Quinby insurance in the bottom of the eighth 4-2.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAn error on Battle Creek and a walk surrendered by Quinby put the tying runs on base, but Quinby would record back-to-back strikeouts to seal the deal.\n<\/p>\n
