Battle Creek, MI <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 The Battle Creek Bombers team report will give you an update on how the 2018 Bombers are performing <\/span>this<\/span> spring for their collegiate ball clubs. <\/span>The majority of teams around the country just finished their third week of play<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Mid-American Conference, <\/span>Will Baker<\/span><\/strong> of Ball State continue<\/span>d his hot start. <\/span>Baker<\/span> had <\/span>a combined <\/span>two hits<\/span>, <\/span>three walks <\/span>and four runs scored in a <\/span>loss to Coastal Carolina Friday and a 7-0 win against Radford Saturday. Baker is now hitting .385 <\/span>with three doubles and four RBI\u2019s through Ball State\u2019s first 10 games this season<\/span>. <\/span>On the mound for the Cardinals, <\/span>Cody Freed<\/span><\/strong> pitched two innings of relief<\/span> in the loss to Coastal Carolina. <\/span>Freed gave up one run and struck out two batters. <\/span>Freed has only given up two earned runs in eight innings of relief for Ball State this season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Staying in the MAC,<\/span> freshman<\/span> pitcher<\/span> Brett Manis<\/span><\/strong> struck out three batters and walked two in one inning of relief for the Ohio Bobcats<\/span> against<\/span> N<\/span>ebraska-Omaha<\/span>. He did not give up an earned run and has now <\/span>pitched the first 2.2 innings of his career without giving up an earned run. <\/span>The <\/span>second freshman lefty <\/span>from<\/span> Ohio, <\/span>Alex <\/span>Kuster<\/span>, <\/span>gave up his first earned run of the season Sunday<\/span>, but <\/span>Kuster<\/span> has pitched well for Ohio in relief, only giving up one run <\/span>in four innings pitched. <\/span><\/p>\n

Over at Eastern Michigan<\/span>,<\/span> freshman<\/span> Nate Jones<\/span><\/strong> went <\/span>2-for-5 with an RBI in a win over Nicholls Saturday. <\/span>Jones has three extra-base hits <\/span>on the season for the struggling 3-9 Eagles. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the <\/span>Northwest Conference, <\/span>Connor Bailey<\/span><\/strong> of W<\/span>illamette continues to have a nice season. Bailey combined for four hits<\/span> and an RBI as the Bear<\/span>cats went 1-2 against Whitworth last weekend. Bailey now <\/span>has 13 RBI\u2019s in <\/span>17 games to begin the <\/span>season.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Middle Tennessee State, right-handed pitcher <\/span>Carter Bair<\/span><\/strong> picked up his first save of the season<\/span> last Saturday in a win against ETSU. Bair <\/span>struck out four and gave up one earned run, but still protected the victory for<\/span> the Lightning. <\/span><\/p>\n

Heading to <\/span>Texas A&M Corpus Christi in <\/span>the Southland Conference<\/span>. <\/span>Drake Osborn<\/span><\/strong> has been <\/span>on fire from the right side of the plate <\/span>for the Islanders. Osborn is hitting .333 with four doubles and two homeruns through 10 games. <\/span>Osborn has a hit in every game but <\/span>one and<\/span> had <\/span>three RBI\u2019s<\/span> combined<\/span> in a <\/span>three-game<\/span> sweep of Utah Valley last weekend. <\/span><\/p>\n

In<\/span> the GLIAC<\/span>, <\/span>Saginaw Valley State<\/span>\u2019s <\/span>Amani Godfrey<\/span><\/strong> picked up his first win of the season on the mound last weekend. <\/span>Godfrey pitched six innings <\/span>and struck out nine as the Cardinals defeated Maryville 8-5. <\/span>Infielder<\/span> Jordan Swiss<\/span><\/strong> is currently the best hitter in the Cardinal lineup. <\/span>Swiss is hitting .517, including five doubles and six RBI\u2019s. <\/span>He went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a walk <\/span>in a 7-3 win at Maryville Sunday. <\/span>An<\/span>d Catcher, <\/span>Griffin Green<\/span> went 1-for-3 with a walk<\/span> in the first game of the M<\/span>aryville series, a 5-4 win for Saginaw Valley State.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Division <\/span>III, <\/span>Zach Gartner<\/span><\/strong> of East Texas Baptist <\/span>currently leads the Tigers in hitting with 23 hits and a .365 average<\/span> through 16 games<\/span>.<\/span> Gartner\u2019s best game last weekend was a 2-for-3<\/span> performance in game one of a three-game series at UT Tyler<\/span>. <\/span>Gartner also leads the Tigers with three doubles, three triples<\/span> and a homerun.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the Wheaton College <\/span>Thunder<\/span>, <\/span>Michael <\/span>McCra<\/span>i<\/span>th<\/span><\/strong> picked up his first win of the season last Saturday. <\/span>McCraith\u00a0<\/span>pitched seven innings, only gave up one earned run <\/span>and struck out 14 batters while walking zero in a 9-3 victory over Rockford. <\/span>It was his best performance of the young <\/span>2018 <\/span>season. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding it out in DIII, <\/span>LHP <\/span>Anthony Brophy<\/span><\/strong> had a decent outing for S<\/span>t. John Fisher College last Saturday. Brophy pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three earned runs<\/span> and striking out seven batters in a close 6-5 loss to Baldwin Wallace.<\/span><\/p>\n

To finish<\/span><\/a> this Bombers team report<\/span>, <\/span>freshman <\/span>infielder <\/span>Riley <\/span>Tirotta<\/span><\/strong> has been a bright spot for the 2-7 Dayton Flyers. <\/span>Tirotta<\/span> is batting .345 in the first nine games of his collegiate career. <\/span>This includes a 2-for-5 <\/span>performance with a double and a stolen base in his last game against Eastern Michigan. <\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>home opener for the Bombers is Wednesday, May 31<\/span>st<\/span> against the Kalamazoo Growlers. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n
