HBC Contracting, a general and environmental contracting company based in Lansing and Battle Creek has gone to bat for the eighth year in a row for The Cancer Care Center at Battle Creek Health System (BCHS) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) in a very unique way.\u00a0 Every time a Battle Creek Bomber baseball player hits a homerun at C.O. Brown Stadium, HBC donates $200 to be split between BCHS and ACS.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

A long-time supporter of cancer programs, HBC went to bat helping cancer victims through the Bombers.\u00a0 \u201cIn addition to our other sponsorships like Relay for Life and \u2018Slam Dunk Cancer\u2019 with the BC Knights basketball team, we try to have some fun supporting cancer programs through this sports venue,\u201d says Michael Beck, Battle Creek resident and owner of HBC.\u00a0 \u201cTo that end, we decided to partner again with the Bombers and sponsor the \u2018Strikeout Cancer\u2019 promotion.\u00a0 It not only recognizes the efforts of the college ballplayers who hit homeruns, but it also helps two local organizations, who are instrumental in helping those facing cancer.\u00a0 This really is a \u2018win win.\u2019<\/p>\n

HBC owner Mike Beck wanted to do something special to help those suffering from cancer so he partnered with the Battle Creek Bombers baseball program and is donating $200 for every homerun a Bomber hits in C.O. About The Cancer Care Center<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Cancer Care Center at Battle Creek Health System has been awarded the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons\u2019 Outstanding Achievement Award as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.\u00a0 This three-year approval ranks BCHS among the best hospitals nationwide.\u00a0 BCHS is the only hospital in Michigan to receive this award more than once.<\/p>\n

Approval by the Commission on Cancer is presented only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best in diagnosis and treatment of cancer and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performances.\u00a0 In order to maintain approval, facilities with approved cancer programs must also undergo an on-site review every three years.<\/p>\n

Receiving treatment in a Commission on Cancer-approved program ensures that a patient has access to quality care close to home.<\/p>\n

The Cancer Care Center, a member of the Mercy Cancer Network, brings some of the world\u2019s most sophisticated treatments to Southwest Michigan.\u00a0 These cancer programs offer information and comprehensive, state-of-the-art services based upon the latest cancer clinical trials, a multi-disciplinary team approach that coordinates the best treatment options, genetic counseling, life-long patient follow-up through cancer registry, and ongoing monitoring and improvement of care.<\/p>\n

Recognizing that traveling to and from treatments can be a major challenge for cancer patients, The Cancer Care Center began a partnership several years ago with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to make transportation more accessible for BCHS patients.\u00a0 It is called Road to Recovery.\u00a0 The ACS\u2019s \u2018Cancer Resource Center\u2019 is also located in the lobby of The Cancer Care Center.\u00a0 This service empowers cancer patients through up-to-date, valuable information to help them make decisions that will impact their cancer experience.<\/p>\n
