The Battle Creek Bombers are excited to announce the recent hiring of their new field manager, Donnie Scott. Scott spent over 17 years in the Cincinnati Reds system where he more recently served as the Dayton Dragons Field Manager.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very excited to announce this signing today,\u201d said newly appointed General Manager Brian Colopy. \u201cDonnie\u2019s experience managing numerous levels of minor league baseball will really be a benefit for our players and fans this summer. Donnie is a true teacher of the game and brings a new level of experience to Battle Creek,\u201d said Colopy.<\/p>\n
Scott was a 2nd round selection of the Texas Rangers in the free agent draft in 1979. He spent parts of 4 seasons in the major leagues with the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and the Cincinnati Reds. After retiring after the 1991 season, Scott accepted a coaching position in the Reds organization that led to roles as a Manager, Field Coordinator, Catching Coordinator and Instructor. He spent 5 seasons with Rookie level Billings, where he guided the Mustangs to 4 league championships.<\/p>\n
Scott returned to managing the Gulf Coast (Rookie) Reds after spending 3 seasons as Field Coordinator. He went on to have two tenures with Class A Dayton, where he led the Dragons to the playoffs 4 out of 5 seasons.<\/p>\n
In between his stints with the Dragons, Scott managed one season at High A Sarasota. Scott was named Manager of the Year in the Pioneer League in 1992 and Minor League Manager of the Year by Baseball Weekly in 1994. Scott has also managed two Midwest League All-Star games and has a career record of 689-569 (.548). Donnie, 49, resides with his wife Debbie in Pinsellas Park, Fla. and has two children, son David and daughter Dana.<\/p>\n
