Wausau, Wisc. – The Wisconsin Woodchucks (17-24, 2-4) recorded a season-high 20 hits on Monday night to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers (24-17) 12-4 at Athletic Park.

Battle Creek fell behind early in the game thanks to back-to-back home runs from the Woodchucks in the first. The Bombers though fought back in the second, with Nikola Vasic (Southern Illinois) drawing a one out walk. With Cale Hennemann (University of Memphis) at the plate, three straight wild pitches were thrown to him, and allowed Vasic to travel around the bases to score. Hennemann and Cody Hawken (University of Portland) drew back-to-back walks. Alex Howard (Arkansas State) blasted a three-run home run to left to put the Bombers up 4-3.

The Woodchucks wouldn’t lie down. They led off the bottom of the second with five-straight singles which scored three runs. The Woodchucks regained the lead, 6-4. In the third, JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) singled, but he was stranded. The ‘Chucks garnered two more hits off Battle Creek starter Jake Hawken (University of Portland) to add one more run to their lead, 7-4. Battle Creek would go in order in the fourth and fifth innings, while Wisconsin got hits but wouldn’t score. These were the only two innings that the Woodchucks would be scoreless. Left-handed reliever Alex Smith (University of Memphis) came in and got the two outs necessary in the fourth, and allowed one hit and one walk in the fifth but got out of the jam.

A leadoff double for the Woodchucks in the sixth lead to a one-run inning and an 8-4 advantage. The seventh and eighth innings saw two runs a piece cross home plate off six base hits for a 12-4 Woodchucks command. Battle Creek would go in order in the ninth to finish the game.
