Bombers Feature Pair of Eagles with First Signing of Season
Battle Creek, MI – With NCAA baseball only weeks away, The Battle Creek Bombers have announced the signing of two new players for the 2018 season. Nate Jones and Shane Easter are a pair of freshman Eastern Michigan University who have the athletic ability to play a lot of different roles for the Bombers. The two Eagles are the OnStaff Group Recruiting Trail’s first signings of the new year.
OF – Shane Easter, 6’1” (R/R) Freshman, Eastern Michigan University
Easter is a local player from Kalamazoo where he attended Comstock High School. At Comstock, he was a 4-time letter winner in baseball, also earning letters in football and basketball. Aside from being a star baseball player, he was a first team all-conference quarterback for the football team where he helped the Colts snap a 40-game losing streak.
As a baseball player, Easter was a 3-time team captain, 3-time first team all-conference and all-district, as well as all-region and all-state his junior year. Easter leaves Comstock with a plethora of records, the most prominent being a batting-average of .563. His last season statistics to go along with that .563 average include 97 assists from SS, 27 RBI’s, 32 stolen bases. He was only struck out twice in his 97 at bat attempts. He also took the mound as a pitcher in nine games compiling a 5-4 record with an ERA of 2.82, striking out 72 batters in 57 innings played.
OF – Nate Jones, 6’3” (L/R) Freshman, Eastern Michigan University
Jones is also a local player who hails from Battle Creek where he attended Lakeview High School. Jones was also a 4-time letter winner in baseball, he also earned letters in soccer, cross country, and basketball. His accolades include being a 4-time SMAC East Division champion and also a 4-time all-city player. He also was a 2-time all-district and all-state recipient. Nate was also selected to the MHSBCA Dream Team as a junior. During that season, he had a team high .538 batting average. His brother, Nick, also plays for EMU as an infielder.
With EMU starting their season February 16th with a 3-game road-trip to FGCU, these two talented young players collegiate careers are only just getting started.
