Bombers Feature Four Players from the Lone Star State

Battle Creek, Mich. – The OnStaff Group Recruiting Trail presents the latest report on the 2018 team. This year’s squad is loaded with talent from the Lone Star State. Three of the four players are Islanders from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. The trio includes sophomore catcher Drake Osborn, junior right-handed pitcher Will Floyd, and another right-handed pitcher in freshman Jack Engelmann.  While Zach Gartner, an infielder, is the lone Blue Tiger for the Bombers, coming from East Texas Baptist University.

ETBU is off to a 10-10 start this season after being on the receiving end of a 3-game sweep to Concordia University, Texas. However, Gartner is off to a great start on the year batting .355 with an on base percentage of .412. Gartner also had a productive weekend, despite ETBU being swept. To start the series, he went 0 for 2 in the 7-inning game, but he reached base on a walk, and a fielder’s choice, earning a steal after he was walked. In game 2 Gartner started off with a triple in the 1st inning, which he later scored off an error. He finished the game 2 for 4 with a single, and then getting on base after being hit by a pitch, earning another steal while on base. Game 3 was another shortened game for ETBU, only playing 8 innings. Gartner started off with a single, eventually being advanced by error to score. Gartner finished 1 for 3 on the day reaching base on a walk, and an infielder’s choice, which he later scored on.  Gartner finishes the weekend going 3 for 9 (.333), while reaching base 5 additional times, scoring 3 times, and grabbing 2 stolen bases.

Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi is off to a better start, beginning their season with an 11-5 record. 3 of the Islanders 5 losses came in their recent series against the University of Oklahoma, where they lost the front 3 games, and finished strong with a win. Drake Osborn was the only Bomber featured in the series. Osborn started the weekend off going 0 for 3, but he did reach base on an error to earn an RBI. He had another 0 for 3 performance game 2, and did not play in game 3. However, Osborn was one of the best players for the Islanders in their win. He went 2 for 5 on the day with 2 doubles, and 3 RBI’s. As far as the two Islander RHP’s for the Bombers, the duo has not seen a significant amount of playing time. Will Floyd has only faced two batters so far this year. While Engelmann is still working his way into the pitching rotation as a new freshman.

The four Texans will look to finish their collegiate seasons off strong, as the Bombers opening day approaches on May 29th.
