Battle Creek, MI – The Battle Creek Bombers made the signing of two underclassmen from Wofford College official Thursday. Alec Cargin, a sophomore Catcher from Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Michael Brown, a redshirt-sophomore Outfielder from Pflugerville, Texas, will join the Bombers for the 2018 season. The two Terriers are the latest additions presented by the OnStaff Group Recruiting Trail.

C – Alec Cargin, 6’0” (L/R) Sophomore, Wofford College

Cargin appeared in 17 games as a freshman for the Terriers and made two starts behind the plate. He batted .318 from the left side, including three doubles and a triple. The three extra-base hits resulted in a slugging percentage of .545 and one RBI. Defensively, Cargin had 16 putouts in his 17 appearances. Last summer, he played in 37 games for the North Shore Navigators in the Futures League. In high school, he helped Collins Hill reach the 6A state quarterfinals as a senior co-captain. He batted .322 with 20 RBIs during his senior season. Cargin’s successful year made him a Gwinnett County Senior All-Star selection and a Perfect Game Southeast Region honorable mention.

Outside of baseball, Cargin was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll his freshman year at Wofford. He was also a member of the National Honor Society at Collins Hill.

 

 

OF – Michael Brown, 6’1” (R/R) Redshirt-Sophomore, Wofford College

Brown is a transfer from Dartmouth College making the upcoming NCAA baseball season his first with Wofford. Last year with Dartmouth, he appeared in 20 games with 15 starts for the Big Green. He batted .226 with two doubles, a home run and 9 RBIs. He also walked five times raising his on-base percentage to .286. On the base paths, Brown was successful in all three of his stolen base attempts. In the outfield, the sophomore recorded 18 putouts.

In high school, Brown was a two-year captain at Pflugerville High. He led his team to a Bi-District Championship his senior year and was named first-team All-District as well. He also earned first-team academic All-State honors.
