BATTLE CREEK, MI,. – The Bombers had their first meeting with the Rockford Rivets on Sunday afternoon and took game one of the home stand with a final score of 6-1. The game was the best overall baseball played by Battle Creek as they accumulated 14 hits and did not allow an earned run.

It started early for the Bombers as they scored first for the fourth game in a row. New addition Ben MacNaughton started the bottom of the first with a single and was brought in on an RBI ground out by Miguel Larreal.

Then in the bottom of the second, Battle Creek started to pour it on. Sy Snedeker got on with a one out single to start the rally. Nicholas Israel would single, and Blake Bean would record his first of three walks to load the bases. MacNaughton then brought in two runs on a single to start out 2 for 2 in his debut and extend the lead to 3-0. Larreal would drive Bean in with an RBI single and then after the bases were loaded again, Stephen Krause would walk to make it 5-0 in the second inning.

Burrell Jones was on the mound for Battle Creek and pitched five scoreless innings while striking out six and only allowing one hit. In the home half of the sixth, Jacob McKeon got on with a single, and Mason Sykes drove him in with a two out RBI double.

Beaux Bonvillain came in in the sixth in relief of Jones and allowed the only run for the Rivets. It was an unearned run after an error, however. Bonvillain struck out four in three innings of work and stranded multiple base runners to keep the score at 6-1.

Drew Dyer took the mound in the ninth for his fourth appearance of the season. It would only take him eight pitches to record a 1-2-3 inning and seal the deal.

Jones takes the win while Rockford starter Bryce Barnett takes the loss after allowing five runs in an inning and two thirds. Battle Creek improves to 2-5 on the year and hosts the Rivets Monday, June 7. First pitch that evening is set for 6:35.
