Waterloo, IA – The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of Santa Clara University pitcher Paul Twining to their 2010 roster.  Twining, a sophomore, is the first player to be named to the Waterloo roster for the ’10 campaign.

Last season, the Shoreline, Washington native made 14 appearances for Santa Clara, with four of them being starts.  The right-handed pitcher struck out 22 while walking just 12 in 25.2 innings pitched.  Twining finished the spring with a 0-2 record and a 7.36 ERA. Bucks’

Manager Jason Nell is excited to have Twining on board for the summer.

“Paul will have to fall back on his experience playing against Stanford, San Diego, Pepperdine, Fullerton, and other great competition on the West Coast and bring his capability to either start or throw out of the pen here to Waterloo,” said Nell.  “I’m excited to see this young man pitch, as he has good potential.”

The 6’1″, 175-pound hurler played his high school baseball at Seattle Prep in Seattle, Washington.  Twining was honored as an All-League outfielder and pitcher in 2007 and 2008, and led his squad in wins and strikeouts during his senior year.

Last summer, Twining pitched for the Saratoga Phillies of the New York Collegiate League, finishing the season with a 2-1 record, a 1.61 ERA, and 21 strikeouts.  Born on February 12, 1990, Paul is the son of Dan & Theresa Twining.

Then Bucks will open the 2010 season at home on Wednesday, June 2 at 6:35 pm versus Wisconsin Rapids.  Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale.  Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
