Former NWL Eau Claire Express MVP, Kole Calhoun, leads the Arizona State Sun Devils Sunday against Clemson in the opening round of the NCAA Men’s College World Series. Calhoun was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tempe Regional due to his three home runs and steady run production. Former Mankato MoonDog, Xorge Carrillo, catches for the Sun Devils and is currently hitting .353. The Sun Devils are also coached by Travis Kiewiet (Waterloo Bucks) who is in his 1st year with the ASU program.
Current players, Davy Wright (Rochester), Rafael Lopez (Madison), and Dean Espy (La Crosse) are three players that will see significant playing time this weekend in Omaha. Wright is a utility player for Texas Christian who plays Florida State in the first game of the World Series. Lopez, a Florida State catcher, will be in the opposite dugout facing Wright today. Espy and the UCLA Bruins take on Florida at the night game on Saturday.
