The New York Mets rookie-level team features some of the top Mets pitchers taken in last month’s draft.

The top performer so far may be 12th-round pick Bret Mitchell. The right-hander from Minnesota St.-Mankato sits at 90-91 mph and tops out at 93 mph. He has a four-pitch arsenal (fastball, curveball, slider, changeup), although the curveball has been his out pitch so far as a pro. Mitchell had allowed one earned run apiece in each of his first three starts. The Lakeville, MN native is currently 2-1 with five games started. Mitchell has thrown 23.2 innings for the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League while giving up 24 hits, but has 28 strikeouts.

Mitchell was 1-0 this season for the Rochester Honkers before signing after being drafted in the 12th round. He also led the Minnesota State Mankato to the D-II College World Series in Cary, NC and was named 1st Team All-Conference in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and 2nd Team All-Region.
