Former Northwoods League player and current Chicago White Sox left fielder Juan Pierre joined the 2,000-hit-club this week with a third-inning single against Cleveland on Thursday. He becomes the first NWL alumnus to reach that milestone.

Pierre played in the NWL for the Manitowoc Skunks during the 1996 season. The outfielder won the batting title with a .360 average (49-for-136) in 35 games. Major Leaguers Robb Quinlan (.357) and Jay Gibbons (.351) finished second and fourth in batting that season.
