Eau Claire swept a double-header yesterday but they ran into a brick wall in Rochester Honker righthander Nick Gruener. Gruener was strong over seven innings as he struck out seven while walking just one. He also allowed just three hits.

Gruener, a Harvard freshman, set down the first six Express batters. After a passed ball on his catcher tied the game up, Gruener hunkered down. He retired four of his next five on his way to his first win of the young season.

The Honkers take on Eau Claire again tomorrow at 7:05.
