There was another incredibly long, marathon game on Sunday night in the Northwoods League. This one was between Waterloo and Mankato in a game that lasted 17 innings and totaled 5 hours, 41 minutes. Teams combined for 30 hits on 136 plate appearances, and the MoonDogs won in walk-off fashion.

Rochester 2, Eau Claire 1

Rochester Honkers pitchers had a big night on the mound on Sunday in a 2-1 victory over the Eau Claire Express at home. Rochester starter Erik Cha (Cal State Fullerton) threw seven innings and gave up one run on three hits and three walks with one strikeout to pick up the win. Stevie Ledesma (SBCC) threw the final two innings and did not give up a run for the save. Rochester scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, and Eau Claire tied it with one in the sixth. Honkers' designated hitter Joey Czarske (Cal State Northridge) had the game-winning hit with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Battle Creek 6, Wisconsin 1

The Battle Creek Bombers scored the first five runs in a 6-1 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Sunday. Battle Creek's starting pitcher Scott Sency (SVSU) pitched seven innings and gave up one run on seven hits and one walk with a whopping 10 strikeouts for the victory. Battle Creek recorded nine hits in the game, and six Bombers recorded at least one hit. Battle Creek's centerfielder Dean Miller (Riverside City College) finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one run batted in.

Wisconsin Rapids 8, Kenosha 1

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters scored four runs in the third inning in an 8-1 victory over the Kenosha Kingfish on the road. Wisconsin Rapids scored the first six runs of the game in the seven-run victory. Wisconsin Rapids connected on three home runs, including back-to-back homers from Joe Wainhouse (Washington) and Ben Fisher (Eastern Kentucky) to add two insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Catcher Scott Kapers (Valparaiso) also homered for the Rafters. Jay Peters (UW Milwaukee) threw six scoreless innings and gave up five hits and one walk with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Madison 8, Green Bay 5

The Madison Mallards came right out of the gate with a six-run first inning in an 8-5 win over the Green Bay Bullfrogs at home. Madison recorded six hits in the inning and sent 10 batters to the plate in the rally. Green Bay cut the lead to one with a run in the third and fourth innings with three more in the fifth inning. The Mallards added two more insurance runs, as they scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to make it a three-run advantage. Madison shortstop and leadoff hitter Nico Hoerner (Stanford) hit 3-for-5 with one run scored.

La Crosse 9, Duluth 6

The La Crosse Loggers scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 advantage and survived a late rally to beat the Duluth Huskies 9-6 at home on Sunday. La Crosse finished with 16 hits in the game, and first baseman Grant Fennell (Nevada) hit 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI, while leftfielder Lorenzo Hampton Jr. (California) finished 3-for-5. Loggers' rightfielder Griffin Conine (Duke) hit his 11th home run of the season in the first inning, which is tied for the most homers in the Northwoods League. Randy Labaut (Arizona) threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up three hits and four hits with eight strikeouts for the win.

Lakeshore 4, Kalamazoo 3

The Lakeshore Chinooks walked off in the bottom of the 11th inning in a 4-3 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers on Sunday. Lakeshore scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at three and forced extra innings. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 11th, Matt Johnson (South Dakota State) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Royce Ando (Michigan State) for the game-winning play. Lakeshore second baseman Matt Reardon (Florida Gulf Coast) and Joe Duncan (Eastern Illinois) recorded three hits. Luke Sommerfeld (St. Louis) allowed just one run in seven innings of relief.

St. Cloud 2, Thunder Bay 1

The St. Cloud Rox scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Thunder Bay Border Cats scored once in the inning in a 2-1 St. Cloud victory on Sunday. Rox starter Austin Caspersen (St. Cloud State) threw 6 1/3 innings and gave up one run on six hits and three walks with one strikeout to earn the victory. Reliever Collin Strall (Louisiana State University) threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up the save. St. Cloud was outhit 7-4 by Thunder Bay but drew five walks in the victory.

Rockford 9, Willmar 4

The Rockford Rivets knocked out three home runs to take down the Willmar Stingers 9-4 on the road Sunday. Third baseman Ryan Long (Texas Tech) hit his sixth homer of the season and hit 3-for-4 with one walk, two runs scored and two RBI. First baseman Ricardo Ramirez connected on his fourth homer, while shortstop Jordan Hovey (Missouri State) hit his first home run of the season. Rivets starting pitcher Drake Robison (Iowa) threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and six walks with three strikeouts for the win.

Mankato 4, Waterloo 3

The Mankato MoonDogs outlasted the Waterloo Bucks and walked off for the win in the 17th inning. Waterloo scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, and Mankato tied the game in the sixth. The game remained tied at one for eight consecutive innings until the top of the 15th. Each team scored a run in the 15th and did the same in the 16th inning to make it a 3-3 game. Waterloo went scoreless in the top of the 17th, but Bryce Adams (LSU) singled for the MoonDogs to score the game-winning run. Though he did not pick up a decision, Mankato starter Reece Eddins (Nebraska) threw eight innings and allowed just one unearned run on eight hits and zero walks with seven strikeouts.
