Four games were rained out tonight due to rain moving across the Midwest. The Waterloo Bucks snapped their losing streak and won their 20th game to stay ahead of St. Cloud in the North. Kenosha is now within five of Rapids in the South after the Kingfish won and the Rafters were rained out. Battle Creek also defeated Rockford to move into third place by a game in the South. All the rainout information is listed below.

Mankato 7, Waterloo 9

The Waterloo Bucks scored seven in the fourth and held off a late rally by the Mankato MoonDogs to win 9-7. The Bucks were first on the board when Tyler Stover (Louisiana-Lafayette) hit an RBI double in the opening inning. Waterloo then broke the game open in the fourth for seven. With one out, Joe Genord (South Florida) got the scoring started with a solo home run. John Cable (New Orleans) then hit an RBI double and Deion Thompson (Western Illinois) knocked in two with a triple. The scoring was capped off by a two-run shot from Jay Schuyler (San Diego). The MoonDogs got on the board in the fifth when Daniel Amaral hit an RBI single. Mankato added one more in the seventh from a sac fly. They started their comeback in the eighth with three including a two-run home run by Zac Wiley (Bellarmine). The Bucks answered back for one in the bottom half, but Mankato wasn’t done. A sac fly and an RBI single from Christopher Schaeffer (Western Illinois) added a pair in the ninth. Brandon Downey (Maryville) then settled in to get the final out and his sixth save of the season.

Lakeshore 11, Wisconsin 7

The Lakeshore used the later innings to pull ahead again and defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks 11-7. The Chucks were first on the board in the opening when Brylie Ware (Oklahoma) knocked in a run from a single. Lakeshore took the lead in the third from a bases-clearing double by Nick Gatewood (Georgia State). The Chinooks were up four after two more came in the fifth from an RBI single and an RBI fielder’s choice. The Woodchucks wouldn’t go away as they got three in the sixth including a leadoff home run by Ware. Wisconsin took the lead in the seventh from another three. Down two, the Chinooks put up five in the eighth including a two-run shot by Joe Duncan (Eastern Illinois). Lakeshore got one more in the ninth from a pass ball and an error which would go on to be the final score.

St. Cloud 3, Eau Claire 1

The St. Cloud Rox needed 10 innings to pull away and defeat the Eau Claire Express 3-1. Eau Claire got the first in the bottom half of the opening inning from an RBI single by Luke Bandy (Dallas Baptist). The Rox then tied the game in the fifth from their own RBI single by Drew Avans (Southeastern Louisiana). Besides the one in the first, the Rox got five innings out of their starter on only three hits, three walks while striking out eight. St. Cloud used four pitchers to throw the final five scoreless including 1.2 from their DH leadoff man Avans in his fourth pitching appearance. The Express got six from Lane Ramsey (Oklahoma) and only allowed the one run, but didn’t receive any more run support. The Rox finally pulled ahead in the tenth with Shane Selman (McNeese) driving in the go ahead from a double and having him score on an error to tack on one more.

Rockford 0, Battle Creek 13

The Battle Creek Bombers’ offense exploded and held the Rockford Rivets scoreless as they won 13-0. Battle Creek’s first runs came in the firth when they put up four right away. The inning started with Alec Trela (Memphis) coming home from a wild pitch. Nick Walker (Austin Peay) then hit a two-run single and came around from an RBI double. Three more came in the next inning including at two-run shot from Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech). Battle Creek tacked on one in the third and then three more in the sixth. An RBI double brought in the first and two more came from a two-run shot by Justin Felix (Arkansas State). Cody Hawken (Portland) hit a two-run double in the eighth which would go onto be the final score. Rockford managed two base runners in the ninth when Zach Rheams (Texas Tech) hit his second single of the night and after another base hit, Battle Creek got the final guy to strike out. Dakota Edwards (Cal State Stanislaus) threw six scoreless, only allowed six hits, no walks while striking out four in his first start for Battle Creek this season, picking up his first win.

Kenosha 5, Green bay 3

The Kenosha Kingfish pulled ahead for good in the top of the night to defeat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 5-3. The Kingfish scored first with a run in the third when Anthony Warneke (San Diego City) came home from a sac fly. The game then went scoreless for three innings until Mike Madej (Purdue) led off the seventh with a solo shot. The Frogs answered to tie the game in the seventh when Brad Hamilton (Kent State) hit an RBI single and Kyle Benyo (Youngstown State) came across from a sac fly. Green Bay then took the lead in the next inning from Ben Hart (Oakland) scoring on a sac fly. In the top of the ninth, Connor Doyle (San Diego) drove in the go ahead for Kenosha from a two-run single who later scored on a wild pitch. Billy McKay (Florida) shut the door on the Frogs in the ninth while earning his fourth save of the season.

Bismarck 2, Willmar 0

The Bismarck Larks shutout the Willmar Stingers 2-0 tonight after starter Micah Beyer (Biola) threw seven scoreless. The Larks got their first in the top half of the opening inning when Scooter Bynum (Northern Illinois) scored on a sac fly. One more run came in the seventh when Quinn Irey (Jamestown) was hit home by Conner Perry (Pittsburgh) from a sac fly. Willmar’s starter Joe Vranesic (Kent State) threw five, only gave up the one run, but did not receive any run support. The bullpen kept them in the game by throwing four, only allowing one on two walks, but the Larks out pitched the Stingers. Jamie Kaye (Augsburg) threw the final two scoreless to pick up his first save on his first appearance this season.
